BHA and Spurs team up to support 'World's Greatest Shave' fundraiser

Despite the hard tackles and fierce rivalries (we all know and love), there is always room for solidarity and empathy in the world of football. Brighton & Hove Albion and Tottenham Hotspur have demonstrated this once more. Both teams came together to show solidarity with Albion defender Rebekah Stott when they met for their WSL fixture earlier this month. The two sides each wore warm-up tops featuring Stott’s squad number and name on the back and the words, "World's Greatest Shave" on the front – the name of Stott’s fundraising initiative, as she begins her treatment for Hodgkin’s Lymphoma, a specific form of blood cancer.

In order to support the fundraising efforts, two team shirts as well as two of the special warm-up tops, signed by the respective squads, will be auctioned off with the proceeds being donated to the Leukaemia Foundation. Rebekah will also be taking part in the fundraising efforts next month when she plans to shave off all her hair as she begins her chemotherapy.

She said: “At 27-years-old, blood cancer is the last thing I expected to hear, but I'm determined to use my illness to support others who are going through something similar.

“As part of my treatment process, I will be undergoing four months of chemotherapy beginning in March. I'm participating in the World’s Greatest Shave to help raise funds for vital research to help more people survive blood cancers, while improving their quality of life. The funds that I raise will also provide families facing blood cancer the emotional and practical support they need.”

Even though it is sad to hear that a player of Stott’s stature is hit with such an atrocious disease, it is incredible to see the response of the footballing world. We at MatchWornShirt are glad that we can contribute a small part to this amazing cause and wish Rebekah a good and speedy recovery.
