The Big Final from Across the Atlantic

This moment has finally arrived!

The ascension of the NWSL is undeniable, since 2017 the league has grown from 8 to 12 teams, giving many states the opportunity to provide their people with a team to support. The league has also managed to reach many new viewers from around the world, making it one of the fastest growing leagues in American sports.

MatchWornShirt is the only place where you are be able to find the worn and signed shirts from the NWSL 2022 Championship Final won by the mighty Portland Thorns. Thanks to an amazing Sophia Smith, the Thorns find the back of the net at the fourth minute. Sophia Smith’s goal grants her the Final MVP, allowing her to complete the double, having also won the regular season MVP. Also outstanding was Kelli Hubly’s performance in defence with 8 tackles and an all-round game of intensity and substance. It has to be said that the Thorns were the favourites entering the game, but it seemed like the win was already theirs quite early into the game. The Currents were not able to create big chances, but it gave us the opportunity to see various quality saves from ex Thorns goalkeeper, part of the 2022 NWSL Best XI Second Team, Adrianna Franch. Lo’eau LaBonta, nominated instead in the first team of the best XI, distributed the ball fairly well obtaining 4 key passes, but performed under the high expectations and ultimately was not able to leave her stamp on the game. All in all the match was a great success with 915,000 viewers worldwide, a 71% increase from last year, and with more than 17,000 in attendance at the Audi Field in Washington D.C.

The proceeds from the auction will be dedicated towards providing a ‘Level Playing Field’ for children, which is also the name of the charity, so that they all have the equipment and opportunity to reap the benefits of sports.
