Three reasons these Cercle Brugge shirts are special
On September 17th Cercle Brugge, historic team of Bruges, played Eupen in the eighth round of the Belgian Pro League. The game ended 1 - 2 for the guests, but scoreline aside, it was a memorable night for all fans. Here’s three reasons why:
1 - Cercle’s Miguel van Damme, goalkeeper who turns 28 today, kicked off the game to launch a message. September is blood cancer awareness month, and van Damme has been fighting with leukemia for the past years. He stood there for “Me to You” , an organisation whose aim is to fund research to combat the disease and support patients.
What a club, Cercle Brugge. In times of difficulty they came through for van Damme, first renovating his contract and now collaborating with the charity to raise funds and awareness.
2 - These kits, designed by KAPPA, are simple yet pleasing on the eyes. Green is quite rare when it comes to football kits, and the rarer the better. The numbers on the back were signed by the players and some of them left a special message, like 23 years old Charles Vanhoutte, goalscorer of the night, who transcribed his happiness on the shirt by signing “Vanhoutte, 14, 1st goal” accompanied with a smile.
The devil is in the details, and there is more.
3 - Some of you loyal Cercle Brugge fans may even find your name on the back as the club have given season ticket holders their very own place inside the numbers. The size and pattern of these names are different in every shirt, making each of them rare and inimitable!
All the game’s match-worn shirts are up for grabs on Cercle Brugge’s page, with some special additions: a squad-signed shirt and of course one signed by Miguel van Damme.
Place your bids to contribute to the cause of Me to You, and join us in wishing Miguel a very happy birthday.
