Innovative idea gives blind Panathinaikos fans the ability to experience the beautiful game

“What is the most innovative way to include as many football enthusiasts as possible?” That’s what the creative minds at Panathinaikos must have been thinking, when they came up with one of their newest initiatives for their CSR program “Panathinaikos for everyone”. To be honest, they have come up with something even we have never seen before: Braille inscriptions on the home, away and third kit.

Braille is a form of writing that provides blind people with the ability to read. Normally, the letters of the Braille alphabet are embossed into a piece of paper or a smooth surface, so that people can read it with the touch of their fingertips.  However, Panathinaikos, together with the charitable organization “Lighthouse of the Blind”, found a way to implement the writing on their shirts. Each of the Panathinaikos squad has the team name adorned to the back of their shirts above the player’s number.

This is a unique and amazing way for blind and visually impaired people to experience the beautiful game of football.

As part of their continued support for the charity “Lighthouse of the Blind, Panathinaikos will be auctioning off their match worn shirts to raise money for the charity. The Greek organization supports blind people and raises public awareness about the challenges faced by blind people and has done so since 1946.

This social inclusion project is a prime example of the amazing initiatives that are showcased during the #MoreThanFootball EFDN Action Weeks, which serve as the biggest campaign for community involvement and social responsibility in European football. “Panathinaikos for everyone” is proud to be a part of this immense campaign.

The Panathinaikos shirts that you will be able to bid on, for the occasion of the Action Weeks, are the 2020/2021 home shirts. The shirts bear two different shades of green stripes, combined with white applications. They will also include the Braille inscriptions, making this one of the most unique shirts you can get your hands on, contributing to an amazing cause!

The auction runs until the 1st of May and you can check out the shirts here.
