Help Beder Reframe The Narrative Around Mental Health

It is a myth that admitting to suicidal thoughts increases the chance a person will act upon them.

Honest and open conversation actually makes a person more likely to recover from these thoughts, as it allows for the possibility of them discovering a new way of looking at their personal circumstances.

Tragically, this approach was not available to Beder Mirjan: a warm, sociable and good-humoured young man who took his own life in 2017, when he was 18 years of age.

For his brother, Razzak, and their father, Yahan, Beder’s death was a catalyst as well as a tragedy: the two men decided to launch a charity committed to tackling the stigma that surrounds the subject of mental health, in an attempt to save other people, other families, from going through what they had themselves. Named in tribute to Razzak’s brother, the charity has so far partnered with various leading mental health organisations across the U.K. and seeks to combine the “specialist knowledge of Shout and Samaritans…” to shift the conversation around such issues as depression and suicidal ideation.

One of the ways that Beder promotes public awareness of mental health and strategies for suicide prevention is through their football team, Beder F.C, who on the 20th of August, 2023, will be facing off in a charity match against Team Harvey, a squad captained by British rapper M.C Harvey and made up of numerous former Premier League players, such as Danny Simpson, Hayden Mullins and Leroy Lita.
