Cercle Brugge pays tribute to Miguel Van Damme

On what was a very emotional day, Cercle Brugge bade farewell to Miguel van Damme on the 3rd of April before the game against KAA Gent. In addition to an extensive pre-match ceremony to honour Miguel Van Damme, Cercle played in special match shirts in which the players’ names were replaced by ‘Miguel’.

Once the game started, Thibo Somers managed to score 2 goals in the 2-2 draw and paid a touching tribute by showing Van Damme’s shirt after the first goal. His worn shirt, signed with the words “2 goals voor Migi”, along with the shirts of his teammates are being auctioned off for Me To You, the foundation against leukaemia of which Miguel was an ambassador. Somers commented: “Too bad we couldn’t win for Miguel, but we still showed the fighting spirit that he has shown all his life.

It is a brilliant way in which to honour their former teammate during what must be an extremely difficult period for the club, as well as Miguel's family and friends. RIP Miguel.
