Shirts of glory: Lille OSC

There are many reasons to love the beautiful game that is football. However, many fans will agree that what makes football such an incredible sport is the unpredictability and the amazing underdog stories that occur every once in a while. One that immediately comes to mind is Leicester City’s fairytale rise to the top.

A more recent unexpected success story is Lille OSC’s Ligue 1 championship win.

With an incredible record of 24 wins, 11 draws and only 3 losses, LOSC managed to beat serial winners PSG and claimed their fourth Ligue 1 title. In their 76-year history, the club from Lille also won 6 Coupe de France titles. “Les Dogues” had their glory years between 1944 and 1955, but dropped off after that and even played several seasons in France’s second tier (Ligue 2). At the beginning of the 1990’s the club steadily started to climb again and rose back to glory in 2011 when they won their third league championship, with star players such as Moussa Sow, Gervinho, Yohan Cabaye and most notably, Eden Hazard. Now, 10 years later, it was the turn of Burak Yilmaz, Jonathan Bamba and Mike Maignan (who had a total of 21 clean sheets!) to guide LOSC to the title.

Another reason for Lille’s success might also have been their amazing home kit. The shirts, which are produced in the club’s traditional red colour, bear a dark ‘M’ shape on the chest that is filled with several tones of blue, but also contains black and white stripes. On the heart, the club’s beautiful crest can be found, which displays a hound and the letters LOSC, on a red and blue background.

Luckily, fans from all over the world now have the opportunity to get their hands on a historic piece of French football on MatchWornShirt.
