Translating to “freestyle wrestling’, lucha libre is not only Mexico’s prime form of entertainment, but the art form has rather rooted itself into the culture of Mexican people and has become a part of their national identity!
Introduced during the early stages of the 20th century, lucha libre quickly gained popularity in Mexico due to the flamboyant personalities of the fighters and the incredibly entertaining nature of the sport. Nowadays, its influence can be felt throughout the world with some of the biggest wrestling organisations such as WWE (World Wrestling Entertainment) and AEW (All Elite Wrestling) drawing inspiration from luchadores to shape their narratives. The proceeds from the masks will go towards supporting the honourable work of Reincerta. The charitable organisation works in close contact with the CMLL with the purpose of supporting children and adolescents who have been exposed to traumatic situations; the charity is looking to rebuild the social fabric in Mexico and aid in the reintegration process of the affected individuals.
